Sport and Physical Education form a very important part of school life and is considered a mark of excellence at Hall Cross Academy. We aim to provide a sporting curriculum that serves to engage and excite all pupils, developing their skills and understanding of health and fitness.

Pupils enjoy an extremely varied Physical Education curriculum assessed through the Head, Heart, and Hands model that promotes physical, personal, and cognitive development. At lower school, each student receives two hours of Physical Education each week. In lessons, pupils experience traditional sports such as rugby, hockey, football, badminton, gymnastics, basketball, netball as well as other alternative activities such as table tennis, parkour, fitness, handball, and leadership. We are very lucky to have our own swimming pool at Hall Cross Academy that we make good use of throughout the year. Year 7 pupils experience swimming through the curriculum and are invited to join our extracurricular swimming club.  As pupils progress through the school, they are able to personalise their curriculum to select a pathway of activities that best suits their interests.

Many of our pupils are keen to work in the sports and fitness industry and we help them to achieve this goal through the delivery of a variety of high-quality courses. We offer a choice of courses at each key stage that allows pupils to select a pathway that suits their needs and preferred assessment style. Our positive outcomes are credited to the wealth of colleague expertise that enables the academy to deliver GCSE PE and NCFE in Health and Fitness at KS4 and A level PE and BTEC Sport and Exercise Science that can be linked to the Football Future’s Pathway at KS5. These courses are taught interactively through projects, theoretical sessions, and practical work.

We are incredibly proud of our sports teams at Hall Cross Academy. We compete successfully in the district, regional and national competitions in a wide range of sports including hockey, rugby, football, netball, cricket, athletics, and more. Each year we organise a variety of super curricular experiences that include, trips and visits to live sporting events, sports tours, and further education destinations. We also celebrate our success and proud sporting history, recognising individual and team achievement through our social media and sports award evenings. Pupils are presented with awards that are recognised by the academy and the wider community.

There are many opportunities for all pupils to be involved in physical activity through our extensive extra-curricular programme, leadership academy, inter-form activity, and sports club links. We are awarded the School Games Mark, a government-led awards scheme that rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We share valuable partnerships with a number of sports clubs that support us in the delivery of our curriculum and clubs, providing facilities, and hosting competitions. These include Doncaster Knights RUFC, Doncaster Rovers FC, Doncaster Athletics Club, and Danum Eagles Basketball Club, to name but a few.

We are committed to ensuring our curriculum offer is vast and encourages our learners to regularly participate in physical activity and sport.
