This week marks Artsmark Celebration week – a week for the Artsmark community to celebrate the amazing cultural education achievements of Artsmark schools.

This year, we may have not held a big festival or event specifically to celebrate this week but here is what ICA-Perform@Hall Cross Academy has been upto in what is a fairly typical week within the Arts at our Gold Artsmark School.

    1. Monday – We appointed ten Cultural Ambassadors from Year 9 – these young people will work with Ignite Imaginations and the Cutler’s ‘Better Learners, Better Workers’ programme to explore and experience the Arts and Cultural industry over the next two years. They will gain their Bronze and Silver Arts Award and have the opportunity to talk to, work with and gain skills with professionals from the Arts and Culture Sector
    2. Monday – Last week we held auditions for our upcoming production of ‘Chicago’. There was so much talent that we found ourselves in the fortunate, although difficult, position of holding callbacks this week to eventually cast the production. Rehearsals start 22nd October and the production is 5th – 7th March
    3. Tuesday – The Head of Performing Arts – a Specialist Leader in Education, along with a colleague from Hungerhill have this week got the ball rolling on the first of this year’s arts network meetings to be held at Cast on 13th November with bookings already being taken. (Incidentally, ICA-Perform@Hall Cross have supported Hungerhill in connecting with the Cultural Ambassadors programme!)
    4. Wednesday – Year 12 students from our A Level Dance, Music and Theatre courses are continuing to work at Cast, on Wednesday afternoons this half term. This enables them to work together as new members of the ICA-Perform@Hall Cross family, working in a professional theatre space and creating new multi-disciplinary work. Many of these students will go onto work towards their Gold Arts Award qualification after half term.
    5. Thursday – ICA-Perform@Hall Cross Academy attended the Music and Drama Exhibition at Old Trafford on Thursday, networking and planning the next stages of the Arts offer for Hall Cross Academy
    6. Thursday – Our ICA-Perform Prefect and Ambassadors ran and supported activities at this year’s Year 6 Open Evening on Thursday night. They demonstrated playing instruments and teaching some Year 6 students how to play rhythms on djembes and drum kits or strum some chords on guitar. They ran workshops and drama games and talked to parents about performing arts and ICA-Perform@Hall Cross Academy. They were ably supported by over twenty year 7-9 students.

  • Friday – The Head of Performing Arts is travelling down to The National Theatre for the Connections Director’s Weekend. He’ll spend the weekend working with the playwright of a new play that Delanté-Détras Theatre Company will be producing for this year’s NT Connections Festival.

  • Friday – It may be a teacher training day, but our Year 13 Music students will be spending the afternoon working with Ensemble 360 who will perform their developing compositions. Not only will our students get to hear their work played by professional musicians but they will also get feedback and support on how to improve their compositions ready for submitting them for assessment.
  • All Week – Numerous clubs have met, rehearsals have taken place, instruments have been played, dancers danced and actors acted – but we’ll save that for another day.

Happy Artsmark Celebration week!
