“On the 12th July 2017, ICA-Perform@Hall Cross Academy, on behalf of the Doncaster Cultural Education Partnership (DCEP), organised Doncaster’s first ever Arts Teach Meet gathering which was kindly hosted by Cast. This event was attended by over forty members of the Arts community in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley which included teachers, artists, arts organisations and arts providers. These included Hall Cross, Hayfield, Minsthorpe, Shaw Wood, North Ridge, Hawthorn, Stirling, Horizon, Rotherham College, Artis Education, Cre8ive Dance, DC Theatre, IVE, Darts, The Music Hub, Art of Interaction, Ignite Imaginations, Higher Rhythm, DYDC, The National Theatre and Cast.  Presenters shared good practice in the arts that teachers could take back to the classroom and use with their students. We also had presentations from IVE on Artsmark and Ignite Imaginations about a Cultural Ambassadors programme for young people in schools.

Presentations ranged from interesting visual arts projects starting with torn pieces of paper that led into global collaborative work, dance and drama activities that develop students sense of creativity and use of Mantle of the Expert, using Google Classroom to support learning and assessment for learning in Arts lessons, researching practitioners, engaging boys in dance and using literacy through performing arts.
This was followed by some interesting discussion around arts in Doncaster, current provision, barriers and ways forward for arts education for all young people in all schools and settings. The group also explored CPD needs in schools and where arts organisations can support these needs.
It was a vibrant and positive evening with a fantastic performance of ‘The Jungle Book’  by Meta Theatre and it is hoped that more events like this will be held in the very near future.
Thank you to all who made the event possible and such a success.”
