About the Course

This qualification has been designed for learners who are interested in Further Education or employment in a related sector. It supports access to a range of higher education courses and is the equivalent of one A level.

Course Content

Learners will explore the key aspects of growth and development, and the experience of health and well-being. They will learn about the factors that can influence human growth and development and a number of theories and models to explain and interpret behaviour through the human lifespan. Pupils will study care planning, the principles and values behind providing quality care and support, and the need for multi-agency working. In preparation for the written examination, students will explore the roles and responsibilities of various professionals working within Health and Social Care sectors. Students will be encouraged to develop an understanding of psychological perspectives and approaches to care and the value of psychological studies to the understanding of Health and Social Care. Modules studied are: Human Lifespan Development, Meeting Individual Care and Support, Working in Health and Social Care, Psychological Perspectives.

Beyond the Classroom

In addition to the more formally assessed units, students are also encouraged to undertake a work experience programme within their first year of study.

Your Future

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care qualifies for UCAS points. It provides students with a wide choice of progress options into further study, training, or relevant employment. Students who successfully complete the qualification will be well equipped to move onto areas such as health care, nursing and midwifery and nursery nursing.
