Dear Parents,

I hope this finds you and your family safe and well. It is with deep regret that I am writing to confirm the academy will be moving to remote provision following the government announcement last night.
In advance of outlining some important information, I want to thank those parents and members of our learning community who selflessly volunteered to support us with the mass testing programme we would have been rolling out as of Thursday of this week. Although that endeavour will not be going ahead, it meant a lot to us that so many of you made that offer. If it is something that we will have to do in the future then we will be in touch.
Subject teachers are currently doing all they can to try to deliver live lessons to students via Google Meet and Google Classroom activities are also being organised.  During the next couple of days, staff may have some difficulties due to their childcare arrangements, but hopefully as of Monday next week the vast majority of lessons will be streamed live and students will be able to enjoy provision of a very good quality.  Should your children express concern about our provision, please email my Vice Principal, Sheila Forsythe, directly: shf@hallcrossacademy.co.uk
Students should be able to follow their ordinary timetable accessing lessons and it is important they endeavour to engage. My pastoral team will be monitoring engagement and will be proactive in trying to support you in keeping your son/daughter engaged. It goes without saying that with the very probable cancellation of exams, Year 11 and Year 13 students must fully engage with any activities provided by teaching staff. I say this without wanting to create anxiety but to ensure that students realise that their level of engagement could have an impact on future grades.
If your child needs IT support or you are having connection problems please contact Mr Watts (KS5@hallcrossacademy.co.uk), Mr Harris (KS4@hallcrossacademy.co.uk) or Mr Goodchild (KS3@hallcrossacademy.co.uk).
We will be issuing vouchers as was the case in the first lockdown and further information will be provided when the government contact us.
Importantly, we remain open for children of key workers. Guidance on whether your son or daughter can come into school can be found HERE. If you are eligible and want your son or daughter to attend school please email Mr Harris (HJA) or Mr Goodchild (TG) if you haven’t made arrangements before.
As always, please contact the school if you have any other questions or have any concerns.
Kind Regards,
Simon Swain
