Routes into STEM

Last week 27 female students in year 10 took part in the Industrial Cadet Bronze Award. The aim of the event was to introduce students to the different careers within STEM as well as the different routes they can take to achieve them.

Day 1: Doncaster College

The first day was a visit to the college in which students completed activities in both virtual welding and pneumatics and hydraulics. They also had a tour of the college and had the opportunity to meet with apprentices.

Day 2: Sheffield Hallam University

Sheffield Hallam University put on excellent day for the students with various activities including; Designing an app, making DNA, a campus tour, question time with student ambassadors and ‘escape the lab’ activity.


Day 3: Wabtec Rail

Wabtec hosted a fantastic day for the students, they met many female staff who spoke to them about their routes into the industry. They had a tour of the site and took part in a team building activity used for their assessment days, they built a train and learnt about all the different considerations needed when building/designing a train.
