Doncaster Athletics Success for Hall Cross

On Monday and Tuesday students from Hall Cross competed in the Doncaster and District athletics meet. It was a chance to crown the Doncaster champions for each event, with a team prize for the winning school in each age group.

In Year 7 the boys were crowned Doncaster champions and there were outstanding performances from Jimmy Kirk who was 1st in the 800m, achieving a new school record of 2.41. George Ackroyd (1500m – 6.00), Archie Hurd (discus – 17.53m) and Chad Clayton (javelin – 20.95m) all finished 2nd in their events. The relay team of Kristian Rejdych, George Ackroyd, Jayden Cuniff and Chad Clayton also placed 2nd.  Jayden Cuniff placed 5th in the 200m final with a time of 29.88.

The Year 7 girls did not disappoint either and finished 2nd in the team standings. Connie Boyd achieved a new school record and 1st place in the shot with a throw of 8.09m. Kenzie Salmon came 2nd in the long jump (3.67m) and 5th in the 800m (3.06). Harli Elborough (javelin – 13.36m) also placed 2nd in her event. Mia Rock (1500m) and Anushka Arora (discus – 10.75) both came 4th and Kiana Rengasamy finished 5th in the 200m (32.70).

The Year 8 girls also placed in the team standings finishing in bronze medal position. Notable performances from Georgia Howlett (javelin – 13.44m) and Kitty Oxby (triple jump – 7.67m) who both placed 2nd. Anais Powell took bronze in both the 1500m (6.31) and discus (12.96m). Ella Gibson placed 4th in the shot (6.72m) and Martha Potts placed 5th in the 300m (54.24).

The Year 8 boys were also Doncaster champions and there were three school records broken with winning performances. Ted Ruston (discus – 25.45m), Logan Hume (triple jump – 9.05m) and Calum Heritage (shot – 9.85m) are all new school record holders and Doncaster champions. Jack Wilson (800m – 2.39) and Henry Bambrough (long jump – 3.94m) both placed 2nd in their individual events. Jude Radcliffe (200m – 27.63) and Will Larter (javelin – 20.6m) both placed 3rd along with the relay team of Joshua Cusack, Sam Jackson, Jude Radcliffe and Gideon Anaba. Ewan Whitaker also placed 5th in the 1500m.

On Tuesday, the Y9/10 teams had a high standard to live up to from the previous day’s triumphs and they did not disappoint. There were some notable performances from the Year 9 boys with Kieran Wheater (shot – 8.78m) and Jacob Middleton (discus – 20m) both placing 3rd in their events. Matthew Thompson (long jump – 4.52m, 200m – 26.2) and Joe Jenkins (1500m) both placed 5th.

The Year 9 girls took away bronze in the team standings and there were two school records broken. Ruby Barker (1500m – 5.36) and Tilly Boyd (100m – 13.25) both won their events and are new school record holders. Tilly also placed 2nd in the triple jump (8.56m) along with Abbie McKinstrey in the 400m (1.17). Sophie James (800m – 2.56) and Alishba Bibi (javelin – 16.1m) both placed 3rd in their events. The relay team also placed 4th.

The Year 10 girls were 2nd in the team standings with Amy Bailey achieving a new school record and 1st place in the 200m (27.66). Amy also placed 2nd in the long jump (4.47m) along with Elisha Raja (100m – 13.78 and triple jump – 7.73m) and the relay team. Ellie Wright (shot – 7.69m) and Amy Tallents (discus – 14.32m) took bronze in their events. Holly Barham (javelin – 13.65m) and Scarlett Morris-Wiles (1500m) both finished 5th.

Finally the Year 10 boys also became Doncaster champions and broke one school record in the process. Adam Allam broke the record in the discus with a winning throw of 28.51m and also finished 2nd in the 400m (56.19).  Adam Bambrough was also 2nd in the triple jump (10.45m). George Fisher (800m – 2.31), Mackenzie Nason (shot – 10.35m) and Alfie Eddy (javelin – 28.9m) all placed 3rd. Brad Forbes placed 5th in the long jump (4.38m).

Such a fantastic two days of athletics and Hall Cross were the only school to place in 7 out of 8 team events. Great effort and performances by each member of the athletics team!
