Sport and Physical Education forms a very important part of life at Hall Cross Academy. We aim to provide a sporting curriculum that will engage and excite all pupils at the school as well as continuing to develop their skills and understanding of health and fitness.
Our pupils enjoy an extremely varied Physical Education Curriculum. At lower school each pupil receives 2 hours of Physical Education each week in lessons and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities as well. In lessons pupils will experience traditional sports such as rugby, hockey, football, badminton, gymnastics, basketball, netball as well as other alternative activities such as boxercise, parkour, fitness and cheerleading. In addition, we are very lucky to have our own swimming pool at Hall Cross Academy which we make good use of throughout the year. Our year 7 pupils use this pool during lesson time and pupils are also invited to join our very successful swimming team. As pupils progress through the school they are able to personalise their curriculum to select a pathway of activities that best suits their interests.
Many of our pupils are keen to work in the Sports and Fitness Industry and we help them to achieve this goal through delivering a variety of high quality courses including GCSE, A-level, BTEC first, BTEC National and Sports Leadership qualifications. These courses are taught in interactive and engaging ways through projects, theoretical sessions and practical work.
We are very proud of our Sports Teams at Hall Cross Academy. We compete successfully in regional and national competitions in a wide range of sports including hockey, rugby, football, netball, cricket, athletics, rounders and more. Each year we hold a number of presentation evenings to celebrate the team’s success and present trophies in front of parents and other members of the school community.
In addition to the competitive sports there are many opportunities for all pupils to be involved in sport outside through activities such as cheerleading, karate, fitness and inter form events. We are always looking to add new activities that will engage and enthuse pupils about physical activity and sport.
